31st LD Dems Rescinds Smith's Endorsement, Awards Endorsement to Melissa Chaudhry!

Big news! The 31st LD has formally RESCINDED their endorsement of Adam Smith, and awarded their sole endorsement to Melissa Chaudhry! 

Quotes from members:
"I would like our elected leaders to be aspirational [and] striving for more. I would like them to have the dream that peace is our way [...], and that's something, when I spoke with Melissa, that I felt."

"I am emphatically in favor of people who are living life with us, and focused on the realities of what [we] go through. [...] Let's endorse the one we really need to move the needle. We have to start making change."

"[re: Israel and Gaza] I don't think Smith is throwing enough weight behind this. You cannot guarantee the safety of one people by oppressing a whole other group. [...] I cannot continue with the status quo, and that is why I'm voting to support Melissa."


The 31st joins several other Democratic LDs in endorsing Melissa, including:

•⁠  ⁠The 33rd LD - Adam Smith's home district, where he went to high school and began his political career - which awarded their sole endorsement to Melissa!  
•⁠  ⁠The 43rd LD - which voted to formally condemn and censure Adam Smith for attacking fundamental American freedoms of speech and assembly.

We have never heard of a party chapter un-endorsing an INCUMBENT from their own party and endorsing the challenger. Making history once again!

Melissa Chaudhry's statement on the murder of constituent Aysenur Eygi in the West Bank

It is with shock, anger, and grief that I respond to the death of Aysenur Ezgi. She was a brilliant and beloved  woman, our neighbor, and a supporter of our campaign.

Aysenur - a passionate advocate for peace and justice - was shot with a sniper rifle while standing, unarmed, near an olive tree away from the main demonstration.

This is a targeted killing of an unarmed civilian by an occupying force, armed with high-powered weapons paid for by US taxpayers. We cannot, in good conscience, continue to arm Israel.

Congress must act to protect lives and restore justice.
